Spider-Man: No Way Home 2

If you’re a fan of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man movies, you are probably hoping to see more of the actor and his web-slinging character. But will a new movie swing into cinemas? Or has the possibility of another movie been squashed like a bug?

Here’s what we know at the time of writing:

What happened in Spider-Man: No Way Home?

In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Tom Holland’s Spidey was joined by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield who reprised their roles as Spider-Man several years after they last donned the famous mask and suit.

They arrived on the scene, along with various villains from Spider-Man’s past when Doctor Strange inadvertently opened up pathways to the Multi-Verse. Thankfully, order was restored but the movie was not without tragedy. Aunt May was sadly killed during an explosive encounter with Green Goblin and, at the end of the movie, the memory of Peter’s friends was wiped by Doctor Strange so they no longer remembered Peter or his secret identity.

Will there be another Spider-Man sequel?

At this stage, no information on a Spider-Man sequel has been released.

However, Marvel President Kevin Feige and long-time Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal have confirmed a fourth film will happen but they haven’t stated when it might be. Sony boss Tom Rothman has also mentioned the possibility of another movie. In an interview with Deadline, he said:

“There are the Spider-Man movies, and we’re currently at work on two Spider-Verse sequels to our Oscar winning animated movie, with Lord and Miller. We hope to get working on the next Spider-Man movie.”

By ‘next Spider-Man movie,’ it can be assumed he means the sequel to No Way Home.

Of course, if and when the sequel is released, there is the chance that it might not star Tom Holland. Aside from the fact that he’s currently on an acting break (according to reports online), he also suggested No Way Home was his final Spider-Man movie. He told Deadline:

“There definitely was a sense for me, as an actor, that this was the last time that I could potentially don the suit, so a lot of that emotion came from the act of saying goodbye, which is one of the biggest themes throughout this film.”

If Tom doesn’t come back for another Spider-Man movie, it might be that a new story is written outside of the animated Spider-Verse movies focusing on Miles Morales, the other character in the Marvel comics who took on the role of Spider-Man.

Personally speaking, I think Tom Holland will return but until we have official confirmation, all we can do is speculate at this stage.

What could the new Spider-Man movie be about?

If Tom Holland does return as Peter Parker, we will likely see the character living apart from the Avengers and his friends, MJ and Ned, due to the memory wipe that inflicted all who knew him at the end of the last movie. As such, we could see a whole new chapter in Spider-Man’s life, with a new villain and a brand new cast of characters for Spidey/Peter to interact with.

If Tom decides to call the new movie his last, the plot could involve Miles Morales, with Peter mentoring him to become the next Spider-Man. This would pave the way for a new trilogy of movies with Miles as the focus.

When could the new Spider-Man movie be released?

Sony has an unconfirmed Marvel movie set for release on June 7th, 2024, so this could be the date when Spider-Man swings back into action. Of course, this could also be the date when Venom 3 is released or the much-anticipated Morbius 2 (only joking), or it could be the date for one of the other movies that Sony is developing, such as The Sinister Six which will likely feature Venom and Morbius.

At this point, all we can do is speculate but we aim to update this page when more information on the next Spider-Man movie is released.
