Manchester United have joined the race to sign River Plate striker, Julian Alvarez.
The Argentine newspaper, Ole and Man United made contact with River Plate over a potential transfer for Alvarez.
Ralf Rangnick’s side only made their interest known recently and ‘put in a call’ in the last few weeks.
Alvarez has been in great form for River Plate so far this season.
The 21-year-old has scored 24 goals and provided 15 assists in 46 games for River so far.
He has been attracting interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including the likes of Bayern Munich, Juventus and Atletico Madrid.
The river plate player had hoped to convince the Argentine star to stay at the club for one more season, but the growing list of suitors makes that unlikely, particularly now Man United are involved too.
The Argentine club is desperate to keep Alvarez and will only let him leave if his release clause is met.
Alvarez has a clause in his contract which allows him to leave for just £17 million.
However, the clause will increase to £21 million in the final ten days of the upcoming January transfer window.
