Former Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard, has emerged as the top contender to replace Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds United, Sporting Life reports.

Bielsa has come under increased pressure in the last week, after his side suffered three successive defeats for the first time this season.

The Whites lost 3-2 to Chelsea, before they were hammered 7-0 at Manchester City.

On Saturday, they were brushed aside 4-1 by Arsenal, leaving them in 15th place, just five points above the relegation zone.

However, Norwich City, Watford, Southampton and Burnley, who all sit below Leeds, have at least one game in hand after their recent fixtures were postponed due to Covid-19.

Bielsa has had to cope with a number of injuries, with major absentees including Kalvin Phillips, Patrick Bamford and Liam Cooper.

He will be hoping to get as many of his key men back for the trip to Liverpool on Boxing Day.

However, if results don’t improve, the club will consider hiring Lampard.

Lampard is still without a managerial job, since he was sacked by Chelsea in January 2021.
