The Osun State Government has announced that it will commence in earnest the administration of COVID-19 booster doses for individuals who have completed two doses of AstraZeneca, Moderna, Pfizer Bio-N-Tech and one dose of Johnson and Johnson vaccines.
Disclosing this via a press briefing in Osogbo on Monday, the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Funke Egbemode disclosed that the decision was arrived at during the weekly State Executive Council meeting.
Egbemode stated that the government has stated that people eligible for the booster dose are those who are 18 years and above.
It also noted that also eligible are those who have been administered with second doses of AstraZeneca, Moderna or Pfizer Bio-N-Tech in the last six months.
“Also eligible are those who took the first dose of Johnson and Johnson vaccine in the last two months.”
The Information Commissioner while highlighting the advantages of the booster dose revealed that it served to strengthen the immune system better and gives greater protection against the virus.
While calling on citizens to take advantage of the opportunity being offered, he maintained that the doses were free of charge to prospective recipients.
According to her, “The doses are available at the various local government headquarters.”
The statement also urged residents, citizens and those who are in the state for the Christmas celebrations to visit the health care facilities across the state to take their COVID-19 vaccines.
