The Borno State Commissioner of Police, CP Abdu Umar, has ordered a massive deployment of personnel across the state to provide adequate security before, during and after the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
This is in line with the resolve of the command to create an enabling environment and to ensure protection of all residents in the state.
He urged the officers and men of the command to intensify patrols in collaboration with other security agencies to enhance visibility policing, as well as raids of criminal hideouts/black spots across the State.
A statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sani Kamilu Shatambaya said “Motorists and Tricycle Keke Napep operators are warned to adhere to all traffic Rules and Regulations, and to eschew all forms of recklessness including drug abuse and drunkenness while behind the wheels. The Curfew is still in force; as such vehicular movement during curfew hours is prohibited.”
While assuring worshippers of the safety of their lives and property, the Commissioner advises parents/Guardians to take proper care of their children/ wards, to avert incidences of missing person(s).
“Parents/Guardians are also advised to warn their children/ wards that the law banning the sales and use of knock-outs/ fireworks is still in force. The Command will not take lightly any act(s) capable of creating panic or threatening the relative peace and security now being experienced in the state, as arrested offenders will be made to face the law,” the statement added.
While wishing all and sundry a happy Christmas Celebration and a Prosperous New Year, the CP urges the general public to be law abiding and security conscious, as well as to continue to support the police in the fight against crime and criminalities at all times and to report promptly any strange or suspicious person(s) movements, or objects to the nearest Police officer/Station or other security services.
CP Abdu Umar also assures the people of the State the command readiness to perform its statutory responsibility of protecting lives and properties of all citizens during the celebration and all time.
“To this end therefore, the Commissioner of Police has ordered the deployment of officers and men comprising conventional police and other tactical teams of the Command to all churches and venues of events in the State.
“Personnel deployed for this critical assignment are under strict instruction of the Commissioner of Police to be civil but firm in the discharge of their duties.
“Finally, the Commissioner of Police wishes to extend his warm greetings to Christian faithful and other citizens in the state, as they celebrate Christmas and New Year.
“He equally enjoins them to cooperate with police and other security Agencies, in their efforts towards ensuring peaceful celebrations and report any suspicious person or object to the nearest Police Station or call the Command emergency phone number 08068075581.”
