The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has on Thursday, December 23, 2021, donated relief materials to victims of a recent gun attack in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna state.
Bandits attacked the six communities; Ruheya, Kauran pawa, Marke, Turunkawa, Nasarawa and Sabon Gida on December 18,19, 2021, killing over 40 residents of the area, while several others were wounded.
The Director-General NEMA, Ahmed Habib who was represented by Alhassan Nuhu, Director Relief and Rehabilitation of the Agency said this on Thursday while making the donation to the Local Government Area in Kaduna State.
He condoled with the Kaduna State government and its people over the loss of lives and property to the crisis, adding that, the gesture was not compensation for the loss of lives and property, but a token to bring relief to the victims.
He urged the council to ensure that the items reached the victims.
Also speaking, Muhammed Mukaddas, the Executive Secretary KADSEMA said the agency sympathized with the people of Giwa over the unfortunate incident of gunmen attack in the local government.
He said SEMA had taken the assessment to determine the level of damage to lives and properties encountered so as to make proper recommendations for support to the area.
He said the agency has made available food relief items to alleviate the sufferings of the affected persons.
Mukaddas assured the people that the state government was doing all that is necessary to end the insecurity situation in the state.
Receiving the items on behalf of the victims, Abubakar Giwa, the Chairman of the council, thanked NEMA/SEMA for the gesture and quick response.
Giwa said that the council has already set up a committee to adequately monitor and distribute the materials.
