Abbar Umar of Katsina United found the back of the net of visiting Kano Pillars in less than three minutes into their 2021/2022 Nigeria Football Premier League at the Umaru Dikko Stadium, Katsina, on Thursday to score one of the quickest goals of the season so far.
The encounter between the two northwestern football clubs drew a mammoth crowd to the stadium as soccer lovers were seen outside struggling to find a way to buy tickets to get into the stadium to catch a glimpse of the encounter. The attendance at the game could be said to be the largest crowd ever to greet any football match in the state.
Umar’s early goal was enough to give the host team the needed victory as all efforts to score more goals from the two opposing teams did not yield any.
Recall that Katsina United lost her first match of the 2021/2022 NPFL season to visiting Enugu Rangers International on 19 December 2021. They also lost by three goals to nil when they travelled down to Port Harcourt to play Rivers United at the Liberation Stadium on 26 December 2021.
With the recent win, Katsina United is currently occupying the 15th position on the NPFL table while Kano Pillars are at the table bottom with one point after securing a draw against Lobi Stars, losing 3-0 to defending champions, Akwa United and pip 1-0 by Katsina United.
In Minna, visiting Abia Warriors held their host, Niger Tornadoes to a 1-1 draw at the Bako Kontagora Stadium as the home team failed to sustain the lead after Martins Ursule’s 34th-minute goal put the host ahead of the visitors but the party was thwarted by Yakubu Hammed’s equalizer in the 53rd minute.
