Bafana Bafana legend Benni McCarthy has joined Premier League giants Manchester United as a first team coach, according to numerous English reports.
McCarthy (44) is his country’s all-time leading goal scorer and remains the only South African to win the Champions League during his time with FC Porto.
He also has playing experience in England where he played for both Blackburn Rovers and West Ham.
Since moving into the coaching world, he has had success locally with Cape Town City and AmaZulu.
According to TimesLive, however, McCarthy wouldn’t confirm if the reports are true saying, “Who’s pulling an April fool on me? No, sorry mate, no confirmation.”
McCarthy who scored 31 goals in 79 apperances for Bafana Bafana from 1997–2012 it will be recalled was unveiled
on December 14 2020,as the new AmaZulu F.C. head coach, replacing Ayanda Dlamini, who stepped down from the position on 7 December 2020.

He took the club to a second-place finish in the DStv Premiership, a record high for AmaZulu in the modern era of the game in South Africa. As a result, AmaZulu qualified for the preliminary rounds of the 2021–22 CAF Champions League.
McCarthy led AmaZulu to the group stages of the 2021–22 CAF Champions League in their debut season before exiting the competition. McCarthy and AmaZulu parted company on 25 March 2022.
