Manchester United continued their unbeaten run in pre-season on Wednesday as they thrashed National League side Wrexham 4-1 in a behind-closed-doors friendly.

Erik ten Hag and his staff gave Raphael Varane the full 90 minutes as centre back partner Harry Maguire watched from the stands alongside Marcus Rashford, Amad Diallo and Diogo Dalot in between the first-team’s double training session.

United confirmed the arrival of Lisandro Martinez from Ajax on Wednesday and he was thrown straight into action against Wrexham, who brought two teams.

Matej Kovar started in goal and the defence included Ethan Laird, Varane, Martinez and Alex Telles. Zidane Iqbal, James Garner and Eriksen made a three-man midfield.

Highly-rated Argentinian youngster Garnacho started in attack alongside Tahith Chong and Hannibal Mejbri, who played as a false No 9.

Ten Hag was keen to see what Garner could do after hearing of his impressive campaign on loan at Nottingham Forest last season. The stylish midfielder has spoken openly about wanting to continue his progression with more regular games.

However, while Garner produced a steady performance, it was 30-year-old Eriksen who caught the eye in the first half with a typical goal which had the sides level at 1-1 in the first half after defender Aaron Hayden scored for Wrexham.

United went on to score three without reply in the second half.

Eriksen and Martinez both came off at half-time to be replaced by Kobi Mainoo and Will Fish.
