Brentford have slapped a £40million price tag on Ivan Toney, after interest from Newcastle United and Manchester United in the striker.
The 26-year-old impressed as the Bees finished in mid-table last term, scoring 12 goals in 33 matches.
Toney, who left Newcastle in 2018, has netted 47 times in 87 matches for Brentford and has finally realised the potential that many saw in him at a young age.
His form has seen him linked with a return to the north-east, with Eddie Howe frustrated in his efforts to sign a forward this summer following Hugo Ekitike’s decision to join Paris Saint-Germain.
But the Magpies face competition from Manchester United, who are scouring the market for a striker following Cristiano Ronaldo’s plea to leave the club.
Toney could provide competition for Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford who – in the absence of signing a top class forward this summer – could replace Ronaldo if he gets his wish of leaving.

But Toney will not come cheap as thei claim the Bees want at least £40m to consider parting with the striker.
Thomas Frank has already lost Christian Eriksen to United this summer and Toney is considered a crucial part of the side.
Toney, for his part, is keen on leaving Brentford but the club are in a strong position as he still has three years left on his deal in north-west London.
