WAFCON: Falcons fail to hit final lose 6-5 to Morocco

It was nightmarish outing for the Super Falcons in Rabat on Monday night  as the nine time Champions lost 6-5 to host Morocco.

As if the day was not meant to be super for the Randy Waldrum tutored side two important players were sent off in the second half of the match Halimat Ayinde and Rashidat Ajibade.

The exit of the two players put a lot of pressure on the Falcons who had to battle to Moroccans for over 40 minutes with two men down. The Nigerian goal which came in the 62nd minute of game was recorded as own goal to Moroccan Mirabet but it was certainly through pressure mounted by Ajibade and Kanu.

The Moroccans got their equaliser in the 66th minute but failed despite all the supports from their vociferous supporters failed to break the Falcons forcing the game into extra time.  Extra time gave way to penalty shoot which saw the Moroccans convert all their kicks while the falcons converted four losing one .

Despite their defeat the Falcons gave a good account of themselves under the circumstances they found themselves. They will now face Zambia in the third place match.’

Desire Oparanozie who was not part of the party in Morocco hailed performance of the Super Falcons taking to the social media to give kudos to the girls

“True definition of the naija spirit. You gave and left everything out there on the pitch, against all odds. I couldn’t be more proud of this team” she said shortly after the match.
