MESSAGE:

There is a great level of ‘rights’ awareness among young people today, which gives them the impression that they have the freedom to do anything they so desire. In countries where democracy is practiced as a system of government, people are empowered to freely express their views and fight for their rights. I totally support this because no one should be under bondage as fundamental human rights should be respected. However, there will be issues when these rights are overly expressed. For instance, in some countries, same-sex marriage is acceptable by law, abortion after getting an unwanted pregnancy from an illicit act is not against the law, the use of hard drugs like weed is also not prohibited. These are examples of destructive freedom in the world today.

Many Christians are fighting against the truth of the Bible by asking for freedom to practice whatever is convenient for them, whereas, these will further lead them into captivity and destruction. Just as God created the eyelids to protect the eyeballs, so has He placed certain measures in His word and people around you – the apple of His eyes, to protect you. He does not want you to get involved in anything that could destroy. If your country permits a lifestyle that is against His word, stand your ground and be different.

ACTION POINT:

Identify things that could bring destructive freedom and avoid them.

HYMN: ‘Nearer, My God

  1. Nearer, my God, to Thee,
    nearer to thee!
    E’en though it be a cross
    that raiseth me,
    still all my song shall be,
    nearer, my God,
  2. Though like the wanderer,
    the sun gone down,
    darkness be over me,
    my rest a stone;
    yet in my dreams I’d be
    nearer, my God, to Thee; (2ce)
    nearer to Thee!
  3. There let the way appear,
    steps unto heaven;
    all that Thou sendest me,
    in mercy given;
    angels to beckon me
    nearer, my God, to Thee; (2ce)
    nearer to Thee!
  4. Then with my waking thoughts
    bright with Thy praise,
    out of my stony griefs
    Bethel I’ll raise;
    so by my woes to be
    nearer, my God, to Thee; (2ce)
    nearer to Thee!
  5. Or if, on joyful wing
    cleaving the sky,
    sun, moon, and stars forgot,
    upward I fly,
    still all my song shall be,
    nearer, my God, to Thee; (2ce)
    nearer to Thee!
