Manchester United’s reduction of players’ salaries, has emerged as one of the reasons Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave the club.
United’s failure to qualify for the Champions League has triggered a 25% reduction in the squad’s salaries.
According to the Manchester Evening News, sources close to Ronaldo say it has “upset” the player.
Ronaldo agreed on a £480,000-a-week deal when he returned to Old Trafford.
However, the cut means his basic weekly wage for next season is now £360,000.
The 37-year-old was the only international not to report back for pre-season at United’s Carrington training complex on Monday and Tuesday due to “family reasons”.
