Manchester United have reacted to the death of their former goalkeeper, Andy Goram.

It was earlier reported on Saturday that Goram died at the age of 58, after a short battle with cancer.

Goram, who also represented Scotland’s national team, played for Rangers between 1991 and 1998 and made 260 appearances.

Reacting to the sad news, Man United, in a statement via its website on Saturday, sent their heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Goram.

Man United’s statement partly read, “Manchester United send their heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of our former goalkeeper Andy Goram after it was announced that he has sadly passed away, aged 58.

“Andy, who was nicknamed ‘The Goalie’, announced in April that he had terminal cancer and our club joins the football world today in mourning his passing.

“Everyone at the club is thinking of Andy’s family, loved ones and former colleagues at this extremely sad time.”

Goram, who was signed by Sir Alex Ferguson, joined Man United on loan during the 2000/2001 season and made two appearances in the Red Devils’ successful run-in to the Premier League title.
