Gonzalo Higuain has claimed that Arsenal chose to sign Mesut Ozil instead of him in 2013.
The Argentine claims the-then Gunners boss splashed out €80 million (£69m/$84m) on Ozil within days of deeming him to be too expensive.
Higuain went on to join Napoli, where he scored 91 goals across three seasons.
He told TyC Sports: “I remember that I was on the verge of going to Arsenal when I went to Napoli, but they said I was too expensive.
“And a few days later, they paid €80m for Ozil!”
Another opportunity to lure Higuain to England presented itself in 2016, but once again Arsenal were unable to put a deal in place and he ended up at Juventus.
